How To Care For Bamboo FurnitureJ D Dean__________________________________________________________________Bamboo furniture, like flooring, has gained in popularity recently with the world's "green brigade" promoting the benefits of this hardy plant. And they are right!
Bamboo is a fast growing plant while the world's best known timber can take a generation to reach full maturity. This article is not intended to give you a lesson in the eco-friendliness of bamboo but some handy tips on bamboo furniture. From tables to chairs to bamboo bedroom furniture, while it's considered a hardy and durable material there is still an amount of care and maintenance that needs to performed. It's just like any type of hardwood, look after it and it will provide you with years of service. Caring And Maintaining Your Bamboo Furniture Here are some cleaning tips to keep your bamboo furniture looking great. 1. Dust regularly. This should be done with either a vacuum or a brush. For any accidents such as spilling liquids onto your furniture make sure you act quickly to wipe it away. Using soap water with a cloth or sponge is very effective. The last thing you want to do is let a wet substance dry because it can stain the furniture and will be almost impossible to remove. 2. Bamboo thrives in hot, humid climates however, bamboo furniture is a different kettle of fish. It's not considered suitable for outdoor use and can easily be damaged by the elements. Under a porch or a verandah should be fine however, even in this situation regular care and maintenance should be performed. 3. While a regular cleaning program will keep your furniture looking good, a major clean at least once a year is beneficial. Again, using warm soapy water and a cloth or sponge should be sufficient. Remember to dry the furniture as quickly as possible. Using a fan or even a hair dryer should do the trick. 4. Applying a coat of varnish is also recommended if the furniture starts to look a fraction worn. Use clear varnish and in some cases, you may even want to consider a coat of appropriate wax to maintain a shiny appearance. While it may sound like bamboo furniture could require plenty of looking after it actually doesn't. It's just a regular process of maintenance, no more than you would use for most other types of furniture. |
